Period Doubling Bifurcation
Robert P. Munafo, 2002 Apr 18.
As you proceed along the real axis. starting at the continent seed R2a and moving through R2.1/2a, R2.1/2.1/2a and so on, the period of the iterates of your current point keeps doubling. Within R2a the period is 1, within R2.1/2a the period is 2, within R2.1/2.1/2a the period is 4, and so on.
This phenomenon is found in all mu-units. Due to period scaling, every mu-unit has a period-doubling sequence with periods equal to powers of 2 times the period of the mu-unit's owner.
Period doubling bifurcation is not the same as the doubling of rotational symmetry in visual features. See Bifurcation, external angle.
