This was sent by email to the MDI men in the New England region. It reflects changes in policy by the MDI board of directors that was communicated by the board in August.

I hope this email finds you all well.
My personal check in is at the bottom of this email. [omitted]
There is one important topic I wish to address to all the men. I will
try to be complete and brief.
The Summary
MDI has abolished the initiation event as part of being a member of
MDI. This is the "upper leadership" way of making happen what New
England wanted to happen.
It gives each division the freedom to decide what its own membership
requirements are.
The Details
- You can be an MDI member and not belong to any division. We already have that in place in our region. We call that an "alumni member"
- To be a member of MDI, you pay dues. Period.
- Alumni men pay the same that we pay.
- The New England Region is just that, a geographical region. So, if you are a dues paying member of MDI, and you live in New England, then you are a member of the New England Region.
- To be a part of a Men's Division, you must satisfy that division's requirements.
Dues paying members who are not part of any division:
- can go to team meetings. We already have that in place in our region. We call that a "guest"
- are entitled to participate in the trainings that we offer and get any discounts that MDI members are entitled to.
- can be excluded from meetings like Point Team Generation, Point Team Initiation, Division overnights, etc.
So far, every division says that you can be an unofficial member of
the division, but can become a full member after doing an initiation
event and a point program. We already have that in place. We call
it "associate member"
Currently there are ZERO men in the New England Region who are dues
paying members that either
1. Have not done an initiation event or
2. Are not willing to do an initiation event
It has been that way for years, and I expect that it will probably stay that way.
We have opened up a portal for men to be part of our organization. Once they join, and we get them on a team, THEY ARE ALL IN! We already have that in place. We call it the Doucette theory of growth. (I just made that up, but it keeps the flow going in the email, and it sounds pretty cool!)
There are over 8 million men in New England that deserve to be on a
Men's Team. I am committed to going after every one of them.
The New England Region creates great men's teams that empower each
other to pursue their passions.
