John Dewey Jones Minibrot
Robert P. Munafo, 2023 Aug 2.
Colloquial name for the period-6 island R2F(1/2B1)FS[2]FS[2]FS[2]S (see that article for an image). Named after John Dewey Jones, who promoted it as an example of an easily viewable island near the tip. Here is his description from Amygdala issue #2:
Slide 37 is a 100,000-fold magnification of a miniature Mandelbrot set of the proboscis of the full-size set. I was struck by the progressive increase in the figure's lines of symmetry as one moves from the periphery towards the set in the center — this suggests analogies with many things, for example the increase in the period of oscillations in Verhulst populations until chaos sets in.
