Branch Point
Robert P. Munafo, 1997 Nov 19.
A point in the Mandelbrot Set from which there are two or more (but not an infinite number of) paths to other points in the Mandelbrot Set. One path leads back to the Continent, this direction is called inward. The other paths lead outward, away from the continent.
If the branch point is a tip of a mu-unit, then it is also a point at which primary filaments (or secondary filaments, etc.) meet and the filaments are distinguished by a rotation number.
See also Misiurewicz point, R2F(1/3B), R2F(5/8B).
