Solsthelion

"Solsthelion" is a term referring to the time period between the December solstice and the Earth's perihelion. (It could perhaps also refer to the period from June solstice to the aphelion, but the following purpose would not apply).

Its stated purpose (as I have heard it) is to give a convenient way to refer to a period including Christmas and New Year's Day without saying either and (for whatever reason) without saying "holidays" or some other substitute.

Since learning about this, Colin Wright (quoted below) let me know that he initated the use of this term, sometime around the end of 2019. Most usage was private e.g. email.

Here are some more recent quotes establishing usage — all are from sites that are intended to be easy to access. Due to their quasi-live reverse scrolling design, search result links might no longer lead to a page containing the searched word or phrase, so I have placed them here on a more permanently indexable page.

I have friends around the world, so there's no specific time to say this:

Here's wishing all of you the very, very best, now and for always. I especially wish you all well for this period of "Solsthelion", the time between Solstice and Perihelion.

My best to you all.

Hugs.
