Cantor
Robert P. Munafo, 2008 Feb 1.
Georg Cantor, German mathematician, 1845-1918.
Best known for his work on transfinite numbers (see continuum, Aleph-0, etc.)
More specifically relevant to the Mandelbrot set, Cantor discovered and described the properties of Cantor sets (Q.V.)
The principle can be generalized to sets in more than one dimension, and in particular, all disconnected Julia sets are Cantor sets.
From the Mandelbrot Set Glossary and Encyclopedia, by Robert Munafo, (c) 1987-2024.
