New Man Pledge Oath (and Symbolic Initiation)
Men's Team Pledge Ritual — Symbolic Initiation
Preparation:
- The new man stands up behind his chair. The empty chair symbolizes the seat in the circle of the man about to commit.
- The man leading the ceremony (and ideally all the men of the circle) lights a candle (in view of the camera if there are any virtual participants). These candles represent truth, clarity, and the inner fire of transformation.
- The man leading the ceremony lights a candle and is ready to hands it to the recipient(s). - All men who are to take the oath should bring a candle to the meeting, including the ritual leader who needs to have a lit candle, and perhaps one extra in case a man forgets his. - For virtual or hybrid meetings, if a new man is joined remotely, that new man's candle should be lit, and out of frame, but close to the camera ready to "take" later in the ritual.
- The new man is able to have access to this document before the meeting to be prepared; his pledge does not need to be memorized, but read with heart and fire. Perhaps print it in large letters on a few cards.
(NEW MEN stand behind their chairs; all others stand in front of a chair.)
RITUAL LEADER
There is a line every man must cross.
A line between comfort and courage.
Between hiding and being seen.
Between living a life shaped by fear--
and stepping into a life defined by purpose.
The men in this circle have all crossed it.
And now, you stand at that line.
This is not just a ritual. It is a choice.
Not to be perfect--but to be present.
Not to be fixed--but to be forged.
If you are ready, step forward.
Step across the threshold... and into the circle.
(The NEW MAN moves in front of his chair — but does not sit)
RITUAL LEADER
Come stand before this flame--the light of truth.
This fire will not consume you.
It will reveal you.
Speak your commitment aloud,
not just with your voice,
but with your whole being.
NEW MAN
(Standing in front of his chair, he speaks with courage and authenticity)
I commit to this team.
I commit to telling the truth.
I commit to taking off the mask.
I commit to owning my experience, no matter how painful.
I commit to leaning in, not checking out.
I commit to giving my best for the sake of the men beside me.
I will not hide.
I will not shrink.
I will not run.
I will face my pain.
I will meet my fear.
I will release the untrue stories within.
I will become the man I was born to be,
the best version of myself,
and the man the world needs.
And,
I will hold space for other men to do the same.
This is my word.
... This is my seat.
... This is my team.
RITUAL LEADER passes the flame to Him.
- If the NEW MAN is joined virtually, hand the candle "through the camera" to him, whereupon he "receives" it.
- This is done by the Ritual leader moving his candle towards and
then behind the camera, to be set off to the side, out-of-frame.
- The new man brings his candle from behind his camera, where
it was lit but out-of-frame and then holds it in front of himself
where his camera can see it.
RITUAL LEADER
This is not a reward. It's a reminder.
Of the man you truly are.
Of the fire you carry.
Of the brothers who now walk beside you.
(Looks him directly in the eye)
Take your seat, brother. And take your place in this circle.
(The NEW MAN Takes His Seat.)
Each man in the circle makes eye contact by looking directly at him (or into the camera if he's attending virtually), places a hand on his own heart, and simply says;
Welcome, brother.
After all men have spoken, the RITUAL LEADER closes the ritual with one final statement;
You are no longer alone.
You are no longer hiding.
You are now one of us. You are a part of a team.
And we will hold you to your greatness.
